Das Buzzword HTML5 geistert quer durch das Netz. Doch noch ist der Einsatz des Mix aus neuen HTML-Definitionen, CSS Styles und Javascript Funktionen etwas holprig. Nicht alles funktioniert, wie man es sich wünschen würde. Welche neuen Funktionen kann man heute schon problemlos benutzen? Ich habe es am Lab Day ausprobiert und eine JS Engine für ein Match-3 Game geschrieben. Nach ein paar zusätzlichen Stunden kam das Spiel “one2five” heraus.

one2five benutzt für die Darstellung keinerlei Grafiken. Schatten, abgerundete Ecken, eigene Schriftarten und sogar Animationen werden per CSS erzeugt. Dadurch erreicht man sehr niedrige Anforderungen, damit das Spiel als mobile Website auf modernen Desktop Browsern, Tablets und sogar Smartphones laufen kann.

Interessant an dem Projekt war zum einen, welche Browser die neuen Features unterstützen – zum anderen aber auch, wie selbst kleine, unscheinbare Änderungen an der Darstellung die Performance stark beeinflussen können. Hier muss man Erfahrungswerte sammeln, welche Besonderheiten gut funktionieren und mit welchen man vorsichtig umgehen muss.

Coming straight from the labdays: Phlocks

At ticking bomb games we have a cool institution called labday. That takes place usually on each friday afternoon. At the labday we have time for our own projects. That means for me, working as a coder at tbgames, I can play around with some other libraries and techniques.

Since I am interesting in the Flash platform I stumbled across the 2D physics library called Box2D. During the labday I played around with it to understand the basics. On a rainy weekend I wrapped my “researches“  into a little game. I called it Phlocks.

Press on the icon above to try it out. You have to stack the required blocks on the green platform by dropping them from the top of the screen. Remember the wind factor.

Ok, let’s wait and see what upcoming labdays will bring…
